Is Twitter a WORN device: Write Once Read Never ?

So I made a Twitter account for myself. Now on my weblog I can display some small messages and links, when I don’t have the energy to write whole blog messages. I think that’s neat!

What I have problems with is the social aspect of it. I started following some people, who have blogs I read. So I followed 10 in words ten people.

Though I try to read all the RSS feeds I subscribe to, it became apparent quickly, that the amount of tweets from just ten accounts would be overwhelming. And also overwhelmingly uninteresting. So I unfollowed two already.

On the other hand, everyone I have subscribed to seems to be following thousands of people and are being followed in equal numbers.

So how does that work ? Is Twitter a one way communication method, you tweet something, everyone follows, noone reads ?
