I hope this new forum software will revive the formerly more active Lafferty Board. Again there are no advertisements and the software is much nicer and in english which should cater to the international crowd :)
This board has lots more features, you can even put your picture besides your postings.

You will have to register to get to all the neato features like avatars, but I am keeping the possibility to post to a topic open for all, unless the SPAM bots start homing in. If you want to edit or delete one of your entries, you need to register.

The old messages have now been migrated into the general discussion area. Here are the links to the original old Lafferty boards for reference only:

The forum look really nice.
Are there any plans to migrate the old stuff?

You should post the announcement to the Lafferty group on yahoo: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/RALafferty.

Here's to a reinvigorated site.

It's an idea. But it's a lot of work, as I needs to be done manually.
Actually maybe this is an idea for volunteer work :D ...
Or maybe for my next vacation, as my last one has just ran out an hour ago :?

OK, since I brought it up I'll do the work.
I'll look through the old messages and come up with a plan, some creative find and replace work should ease the pain. I'll contact you later this week.

Wow. That'd be great.

Looks like the only way to import is via SQL.
I will do the conversion of the data to SQL, if you can send me the data as follows:

Code:
author, email, homepage, date, subject, text
Example:
'Harold', 'harold@nospam.org', 'http://www.haroldbakker.com/', 'My fav. Lafferty story', 'This is my favorite Lafferty story...'

The most tricky part I think is to get a "unified" date. I think seconds from 1900 would be nice as this is what I think phpbb uses.

Actually the datepart is the least of the problems.
I'm not sure if a SQL import would work as phpBB also stores metadata regarding posts in a seperate table (phpbb_posts). I'll run a test this weekend and see if this can be solved, if all else fails I'll just copy stuff over, possibly as a new user called archiver or something.

Don't worry about that. I'll do the postprocessing. If I have the time I might even wanna try to automatically recreate the user information.
