I think I may have said this on the old message board but I have a very different opinion of Fourth Mansions than are is on the reviews page. It was my first Lafferty and still remains my favourite. To me it seems deeper (of more correctly, hinting at depth). I'll agree it's less funny, (or more correctly, more serious) and I do like the funny ones, but seeing the word "lame" put next to Fourth Mansions makes my heart sink. To me it has a real atmosphere.

If you feel unhappy about the review, why not write a supplement one. In another case where it seemed that I missed the point completely for the benefit of others I have inserted a second opinion (-> Continued on Next Rock note).

I will do a review of 4th Mansion one day - i think I need to re-read it first - I've been promising to do that a while now. As I said it was my first Lafferty and it would be interesting to read 4thM now I've read quite a bit more.

Is there anybody out there whothinks "Fourth Mansions" desctibes a real possibility? I don't mean the story itself, but the "brainweave" -- amind meld of 7 (or8 or 9) people? Remember that 1.) this theme was written about in "More Than Human" by Theodore Sturgeon, and in "The Inner Wheel" by Keith Roberts. 2.) Dean Radin's "The Conscious Universe" strongly suggests psi abilities are real, and wide-spread.

I have a collectionof writings called "The Harvester Project" if anyone is seriously interested.
