Non optimal Windows 8 UI item

The switch in Windows 8 has a confusion problem IMO.

In the off state it "feels" right. The knob is pointing towards the "Off". "Off" acts as a description of the state and, possibly unintended, as a label for the switch graphic.

In the on state, the knob is pointing away from the "On":

So the function as label for the switch graphic is gone or rather actually inverted. In the above example, because of the proximity to the short  text "Mobile broadband", which stops at the switch, it is not that noticable.

But when the label/description grows, it becomes disconcerting, at least to me:

In all likelihood that's one of the reasons, there is so much whitespace between "O"n and the switch, but it's more a bandaid than a solution.
