While perusing Amazon I found that a publisher called Centipede Press will be publishing a new Lafferty book The Man Who Made Models: The Collected Short Fiction Volume #1. Is this going to be a series of volumes with ALL stories ? A list price of $100 for 260 pages is not a steal...

It's supposed to be out November 12, 2013. I looked at the Centipede Press page for more details, but unfortunately, the detail link on the forthcoming titles selection goes to nowhere.

Interestingly the book cover image on Amazon reads differently.

There is a page up for the book now:

The Man Who Made Models

Limited to 300 copies, each signed by Michael Swanwick, John Pelan, and cover artist and designer Jacob McMurray.
Introduction by Michael Swanwick.
Afterword by John Pelan.
Photographs of R.A. Lafferty.
Fully cloth bound, gorgeous dustjacket, ribbon marker, head and tail bands.

Since one can buy them from centipede press direct for $45, I wanted to order one. But I found out that the shipping costs to Germany are immense. I deduced that six books were about the optimal number of books to make the shipping the least painful.

I convinced myself that having 5 spare extra copies would be very useful to have as gifts, but if someone wants a copy I could probably get it delivered within Germany for EUR 50 total. Outside of Germany probably EUR 52 or so. BIG IF: if I calculated taxes correctly.

So if you are interested in one post a reply.

I got this from centipede press after paying: "Thank you for this order — these will ship in early December. Stay tuned!". So hopefully in time for christmas :)

The Man Who Made Models is a collection of Lafferty stories being published by Centipede Press. It's an expensive, limited edition hardback--but it's a start! Now we need the publishing world to sit up and take notice, and put out an affordable, heavily marketed paperback collection to hook in new readers. However the new Centipede Press book looks like it will be a gorgeous addition to any Lafferty fan's collection.

Centipede press lists it on their web site: http://www.centipedepress.com/sf/manmademodels.html

Daniel Petersen has a brilliant blog post about the book here: http://antsofgodarequeerfish.blogspot.c ... ume-1.html

Table of Contents:
    Introduction by Michael Swanwick
    The Man Who Made Models
    The Six Fingers of Time
    The Hole on the Corner
    Square and Above Board
    Jack Bang's Eyes
    All But the Words
The Ungodly Mice of Doctor Drakos
    Frog on the Mountain
    Narrow Valley
Condilac's Statue or Wrens in His Head
    About a Secret Crocodile
Days of Grass, Days of Straw
    The Ninety-Ninth Cubicle
    Thus We Frustrate Charlemagne
    Parthen
The Skinny People of Leptophlebo Sttreet
    Rivers of Damascus
Afterword by John Pelan (the publisher)

Limited to 300 copies, each signed by Michael Swanwick, John Pelan, and cover artist and designer Jacob McMurray.

I can't wait!

SHIPPING UPDATES.
Our printer let us know that three titles — The Man Who Made Models, Like a Dead Man Walking and Witch House — will all be coming to us the week of January 6. I should have them by January 9. Please give me a couple weeks to get these all packed and shipped. These were supposed to be here weeks ago, but they aren’t, for which you have my sincere apologies. These will get out to you as soon as possible! Thank you for your patience.

He needs a couple of weeks to pack and ship... so February the earliest I guess, IF...

Noted :) I will let you know when the books arrive here. I haven't gotten any further information from Centipede yet.

Interestingly the second part is already up at Amazon as forthcoming.

Kevin at YALB reports that he received his copy, so those of us in the U.S. who preordered should be expecting it this week or early next.

I got this now from Centipede:

Quote:
Your six copies of The Man Who Made Models will ship on Tuesday. I have been packing the last of the orders and just wanted to drop you a quick note and let you know that I haven't forgotten!

With the amount of postage I paid, I expect a helicopter courier on my doorstep with the package on Wednesday, latest ;)

Hey Nat, that's awesome news. I talked to a friend earlier today who might want to join in, I gave him the url for this thread so he'll post if he wants to join.
PM me or send me a mail at hpwb [at] xs4all.nl with your IBAN and the amount.

Will do when it arrives. I can't give a precise quote yet, because of taxation.

The wares have arrived! So it's actually pretty much exactly as I calculated. You can get a book for EUR 50 for a Büchersendung within Germany or EUR 52 for a Büchersendung to a european destination.

I'm probably far too late, but If there are any copies left I would really like one.
Why can't they release cheap epubs to popularize Lafferty though? It's all very well printing limited editions for fans like me, but If like to see lots of people reading great stories. I know some of his work is hard to read, but a lot of the short stories work really well for everyone ... For instance I have never met anyone who read Narrow Valley and didn't like it.

Thanks very much to Nat! for letting me have his last remaining copy of the book ... it's great to read a few stores I've never been able to get hold of before.

Also ... for anyone who hasn't noticed, the second volume of the collected stories is now available for pre-order on amazon:
The Collected Short Stories of R.A. Lafferty Volume Two: The Man with the Aura
