Just getting thru Not to Mention Camels....
Phew...heavy trip...
Obfuscation abounds...
I can feel my mind mangling under the strain ...

Not To Mention The Camels is easy to understand. It is about an Adolph Hitler figure, or a figure like Charles Manson or Jim Jones.

I figured that - but its the way RAL keeps saying - in his inimitable way - that something is so, then it isn't so etc. And the convoluted image on image. Plus the world hopping and dying and not dying etc etc. love it but it's one of RAL's "strong brews" I think. I thought the same of Easterwine. Little chunks at a time were all I could handle...

It is always very difficult when reading Lafferty to figure out what means something and what is merely there for play - and as you well know Lafferty loves to play incessantly. When Lafferty, in Not To Mention Camels, says something is so but then depicts the opposite, I think he could be saying something about the unreality that swirls around cult-figures.

I work on the assumption that everything in Lafferty means something, and everything is there for play. I've never seen any contradiction between the two.
