just in the midde of Apocalypses, following the greatest detective in the world and his struggle to find reality on the peninsula of Sandaliotis.
So far, so good - will post more when I'm done.
Anyone else any thoughts on the book?

Looking forward to your final verdict 8)
Certainly a strange journey, somehow a "Mulholland Drive" before that even existed.

I have to admit, "Sandaliotis" is way too diffuse for my tastes--and I tend to enjoy Lafferty's difficult books the most. "Three Armageddons," however, is a far superior novella, and one of RAL's best. I found it to be very reminiscent (or should that be pre-reminiscent?) of Anthony Burgess's "Earthly Powers."

As I've said elsewhere, The Three Armageddons of Enniscorthy Sweeney is my favourite of Lafferty's novels. Don't know how many times I've reread it. Don't mind Where Have You Been, Sandaliotis, but some of it is paint-by-numbers rehashing of Fourth Mansions and some of his other work.

I believe that the reason the Constantine Quiche story is so odd, is that he was trying to write from the viewpoint of Constantine, who had spent time in the "lilac fog" and therefore gone a little bit nuts. Not so much that he was unable to perform his job, but nuts nonetheless. IIRC, the text says that anyone who wears the fog will be affected. Read like this, the whole thing makes much more sense . . . as does the ending.

But I have yet to understand the Enniscorthy Sweeny story. Just totally lost on that one. Is he JC? Is it the Parousia? Still a mystery here.

I just read this article on Wikipedia. A possible inspiration for Sandaliotis?
