Lovers of the writings of R.A. Lafferty will enjoy the work of Franz Kafka. I strongly advise you to begin with Kafka's short stories which were his best writings.Avoid the novels. Get ahold of "The Complete Short Stories". Kafka, as a writer, could be just as funny, bizarre, and whacky as Lafferty was. Perhaps it could be said that Kafka was a Jewish version of Lafferty and that Lafferty was a Catholic Kafka. |

I was at the Roger Ebert Forgotten Film Festival in Champaing, IL, a couple of weeks ago, and the first film--THE STONE READER--was a documentary about someone trying to locate an acclaimed novelist from 1970 who was now out-of-print, and nowhere to be found. The movie is a feast for someone who loves reading, and this is how I learned about LA Lafferty. FOURTH MANSIONS was mentioned in the credits, and this is where I will start. The Catholic Kafka...neat!!! |

The IMDB page for this film doesn't indicate any Lafferty connection. I too would like to know how RAL fits into it. |
