A lot going on in this one. Papa Garamask seems like an placeholder for Hemingway-style macho writing, and the frog man one for newer styles. I liked the mythic elements (flying creatures tearing bits off the protagonists, ur-beasts stalking them). Great story!

I love the Hemingwayesque hero, who fights animals without guns and who argues with ghosts. The mystery element is fair and neither too hard or too easy.
